I love how much though they put into the entire concept of their band versus just focusing on one thing or another and ignoring everything else (which I think too many bands do, personally). The Nation of Ulysses is unmatchable by any band ever they have created a dialectic, a movement, and a youthful assault of the mind and senses. David's records are great in the kind of 70s pop singer/songwriter flavor (hell, parts of Go Down sound like midperiod Billy Joel records, like "The Crotch of Saturday Night", and this was the guy that drummed on "Rather Be Alive for chrissakes), and Dennis has tried just about everything else. the nation of ulysses - 13 point program to destroy america lp1. It shows that there can be life after "hardxcore" music and that similar passion and intelligence can be put into other forms. David Sandstrom's solo records (Go Down is a particular favorite) are really awesome, and Dennis's recent power-pop group The Lost Patrol Band is a lot of fun too.
